37th Aiken's Makin' planning on target

The annual event is a little more than two months away, and Aiken’s Makin’ planning is right on schedule.

“We are on target in all key areas,” said Co-Chair John McMichael, Hutson-Etherredge Company, of the annual arts and crafts show set for September 6th and 7th this year.

Co-Chair Amber Holcomb, Cumberland Village Senior Living Community, said, “All of the crafters and food vendors have been notified of their acceptance into the juried show, and we are now working on other important aspects of the event.  The committees are doing a terrific job, and I think all of our strategic planning is paying off,” Holcomb said

“We were excited about the overwhelming response to the application process, which, of course, made for some tough decisions by the jury,” McMichael added.

The Chamber received 215 applications for arts/crafts spaces of which 181 were accepted, including 44 new vendors.  Twenty-three of 42 food vendor applications were accepted, including eight new ones.

“We will definitely have a variety of arts and crafts, and plenty of food choices, this year,” said Dianne Phillips, the Chamber’s coordinator of Aiken’s Makin’.  In addition, we have several sponsorships in place with a few opportunities still available,” Phillips said.

Local business Dumpster Depot and the Aiken Chamber’s many volunteers will continue their efforts for an environmentally friendly event.  Last year with the help of Dumpster Depot, the Chamber was able to divert 50% of the waste generated.
“We were pleasantly surprised by last year’s recycling statistics and will work even harder to get more trash recycled this year,” McMichael said.
“This was a significant achievement embraced by event vendors and patrons. The staff and additional volunteers that Dumpster Depot brings to the recycling effort make it all possible,” said Holcomb.
“We look forward to diverting even more waste this year!’’ said Norman Dunagan, Dumpster Depot’s Founder and CEO.
