AYP launches 7th year

The Aiken Chamber Young Professionals (AYP) group launched its seventh year in January with 260 members strong.  The group of 22- to 39-year olds continues to gain momentum with a strategic plan and well defined vision in place.

“I am very pleased with where our AYP program has come over the past six years and look forward to building on our current momentum,” said 2014 AYP Chair Derrick McLane, URS Corporation.  “This year we will be focusing on growing our membership in numbers and in diversity,” McLane said, adding that many of the AYP members have moved to the area just within the past few years.

Fran Jones, Bridgestone, will work closely with the group in her role as the Chamber’s 2014 vice chair of Business and Community Development.  “The Aiken Young Professionals set the example for our future leadership in the Aiken area. Through their community involvement initiatives, they have made a difference,” Jones said.

“As a local employer that has many young professionals, I believe that AYP is one of the most important assets we have in our local business community.  I look forward to supporting this group in building successful networking and business opportunities to grow and develop our future leaders for Aiken,” Jones said.

AYP is engaged in numerous professional and social activities designed to nurture future leaders of the Greater Aiken area.  Twenty-eight active members make up the 2014 AYP Steering Committee that is responsible for activities in the following areas – community service, lunch & learn programs, membership/sponsorships, and information/technology

“Our steering committee is energetic, talented, and ready to get going on our 2014 goals. I look forward to working with each of them,” McLane said.
