Blue Ribbon Panel makes recommendations
The blue ribbon panel appointed by Aiken Chamber Chair Steve Wilson, SRP Federal Credit Union, in January completed its work and sent its recommendations to the Chamber’s board of directors in August.
“It has been an exhilarating eight months listening to the strategic and innovative ideas coming from the panel,” said panel chair, Arthur W. “Buzz” Rich, Esq., immediate past chair of the Aiken Chamber.
“The group took their role very seriously in researching and recommending big ideas they feel will enhance quality of life and economic vitality for our community. I appreciate their commitment and due diligence,” Rich said.
The recommendations of the blue ribbon panel fit into several major categories, according Chamber Chair Wilson. “In addition to sharing their own thoughts and ideas, the panel also explored the accomplishments of other cities they admire, which ultimately led them to a variety of recommendations” Wilson said.
Among the major categories are:
• The need to proactively promote a climate of entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as an attitude of welcoming new businesses to the community
• The need to address the county’s out-of-date public educational facilities and to find a solution to the issue
• The need to develop a new generation of community leaders who understand the challenges and who can work their way through to solutions
“I would like to thank the blue ribbon panel and Chair Rich for their commitment to our community and for their due diligence in reaching their many viable recommendations,” Chair Wilson said. “Their strategic thinking and hard work will help the Chamber establish a plan for the future.”
The panel’s recommendations will be reviewed and discussed by the Chamber’s board of directors at its annual planning session in September.
