Chamber honors those who served
The Aiken Chamber recently hosted a champagne reception to honor those who have served the community and the Chamber throughout the years. The attendees included past Woman of the Year award recipients, past Man of the Year recipients, and Past Chairs of the Chamber Board of Directors.
This year marked the 60th year of the presentation of the Man and Woman of the Year awards and the first time such a reception has ever been held.
Chamber President J. David Jameson welcomed the guests, beginning with a quote from Mahatma Gandhi, who said, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
Jameson said he was honored to be in the company of so many movers and shakers in the community. “You have given your time and talents to move our community and our chamber to where they are today. We have all benefited because of your leadership and service to making a positive difference,” Jameson said.
He finished his welcome with a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., “Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”
Chamber Chair Steve Wilson, SRP Federal Credit Union, thanked attendees and recognized them with a toast. “It is the great honor of the Chamber leadership to recognize those who have given so much” Wilson said. He completed his remarks with a quote from the late President Calvin Coolidge, who said "No one was ever honored for what they received. Honor is the reward for what has been given."
