Chamber receives Communication Excellence Award
The Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce has received an Award of Excellence in Communications from the American Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE). The 2016 edition of the Chamber’s Welcome Aiken publication was recognized for exceeding the fundamental standards and criteria for communications excellence.
“This is the second time in five years that Welcome Aiken has received an award at the national level,” said Chamber President J. David Jameson. “Our goal has been to produce a community magazine at a professional, award winning level, and this recognition continues to validate our achievement and our commitment to being a model chamber,” he said.
This year's Awards for Communications Excellence drew entries from large and small chambers throughout the U.S. The Aiken Chamber submitted its 2016 Welcome Aiken community guide under the publications category.
The Aiken Chamber is one of 13 in its peer group in North America to receive an Award for Communication Excellence, and the only organization in South Carolina to receive an award in the publications category. Chambers in Hilton Head Island-Bluffton, Beaufort and Greer received awards in other categories.
The 2016 publication was written and designed around the theme, An Aiken State of Mind. Using photographs from local artists and the perspectives of engaged members of the community, the publication came to life with quotes and photography exploring the unique essence that is Aiken.
More than 8,000 copies of Welcome Aiken are distributed to newcomers, visitors, potential business/industry, and current and potential residents each year.
“Effective communication is paramount to all we do here at the Chamber. It is our No. 1 priority to our members, to the community and to numerous other entities,” Jameson said.
The Awards for Communication Excellence (ACE) is an annual competition that recognizes excellence in all areas of communications. Celebrating its 33rd year, ACE continues to be the vehicle for the chamber community to promote effective chamber communications, as well as highlight initiatives, introduce events and inform members.
“A chamber communicates not only to its business community, but also to the entire town, city or region it serves,” says Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives President and CEO Mick Fleming. “These annual awards recognize the varied communication excellence of chambers going about their work coordinating efforts that benefit their communities.”
