Community Rock Stars visit AYP

Aiken Young Professionals kicked off its AYP Rock Star Series at the February Third Thursday networking event Feb. 18 at Hilton Garden Inn of Aiken.

Mayor Rick Osbon spoke briefly to the group of 22- to 39-year-olds and then spent an hour networking with members.  AYP Chair, Rebecca Vigné, explains, “It was a great  way for us to reach out to one of our community leaders and find out how our age group can be more active in
Aiken.”

Mayor Osbon said, “Seeing the Aiken Young Professionals taking an active role in the community is great. Their opinions are vital to effective planning for Aiken’s future. It was fantastic to see so many of the   group participate recently in the visioning process, and spending time with the group at Third Thursday was my pleasure.”

The AYP Rock Star Series will run from February through October at each Third Thursday event. Each rock star, or Aiken community leader, will have the opportunity to address the group and network among its members.

Other rock stars lined up to speak are Aiken City Manager John Klimm and USC Aiken Chancellor Dr. Sandra Jordan. The next AYP Third Thursday will be March 17 at George Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Members and first-time guests are free.

Registration is requested at www.aikenchamber.net. The mission of AYP is to provide an environment for young, career-minded individuals to meet and develop both socially and professionally.
