Are you baffled about what you need to do as a small business owner under the new Affordable Health Care Plan?  Not sure where to turn for help in understanding what it all means and how it will impact your bottom line?  Will you be penalized if you do one thing and not another?

New health care laws go into effect this coming January, and the Aiken Chamber of Commerce is set to help you get answers amid the chaos before then.

“Affordable Health Care Act – Rumor vs. Reality” will be presented Tuesday, September 17, from 8:30 to 11 a.m. in the USCA Convocation Center VIP Room.  Health care plan experts will share their knowledge and offer answers to many questions.

Sam Monroe, chamber of commerce representative, Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina (BCBSSC), will provide general information on Health Care Reform, why the law was passed, and how it is expected to impact health care and health insurance in the future.

Katherine Todd, community relations manager, Consumers Choice Health Plan, will explain the Individual mandate and small employer Marketplace (exchange) enrolling process for coverage beginning October 1 with a January 1 effective date.

Todd will also explain new medical plans, deductible and out-of-pocket maximums, and essential health benefits – all part of the new plans required by Health Care Reform – including tax penalties that individuals will have to pay if they do not comply.

Consumers Choice Health Plan is the first fully insured, non-profit, health plan in South Carolina, set to open January 1, 2014.

“This seminar is an important educational tool for small employers about expectations from the U.S. government on January 1,” said Paul Reeves, individual and group benefits sales rep, Hutson-Etherredge Companies, sponsor of the seminar.  “I encourage everyone to attend and get their questions answered and also get a better understanding of terminology used in advertising and literature that is being sent out by many companies today.”
