Reasons why first Aiken City Limits will keep you coming back
It's all about the collaboration. It's all about that Aiken atmosphere. It's all about a good time and good music in Aiken. Throughout the weekend of October 12 -15 in Aiken you will find music on every street corner in Aiken - from the heart of downtown, to the Southside, to a horse showground. With National names like Cole Taylor and Cody Webb and regional talent like Mike Frost and Cranford Hollow. Plus Saturday includes free transportation between the venues by hopping on the City of Aiken trolley so you can check out the bands, music, vendors and restaurants throughout the City. Here are 6 undeniable reasons why the inaugural Aiken City Limits will keep you coming back for more.
1. It's all about collaboration.
That's the heart of this event. It's the concept behind #Aiken4Music. The event got going when 2 event-holders, Katy Lipscomb with Aiken Music Fest and Derek Herron with Aiken Young Professionals, realized they both were planning big events (Aiken Music Fest and Trucks N' Tunes) on the same weekend, and the conversation that ensued was not how to put the other's event down but how to work together. Derek, Katy, and a number of other individuals then all got together to make the weekend bigger and better and to pull in partners across the rest of the city. These are our local rock-stars. When everyone is able to put everything into their event and then they also collaborate with others to be a part of something bigger, you know it's going to be awesome.
2. We're covering all kinds of music... Jazz, Bluegrass, Americana, Country and Gospel. Each event and space will be focused and specialized, so you know what you're getting and you can make plans to be where you want to be.
3. It's all about that Aiken atmosphere.
If you know much about Aiken you know the meaning of the words charming and laid-back and this weekend will be in true Aiken-style. When was the last time you went to a music festival on horse show grounds? That’s pretty Aiken for you.
4. Most events are totally FREE.
Both headlining events on Saturday--Trucks n' Tunes and Aiken Music Fest are totally free, as is Amp the Alley on Thursday, Bluegrass and Brews on Friday and all the music going on inside and outside of participating restaurants throughout the weekend. That means you can spend your money focusing on the Trucks portion of Trucks N' Tunes and the brew portion of Bluegrass and Brews and all the other incredible eats and shopping the weekend will hold. What could be better?
5. You'll find national and local talent.
This weekend will give you the names you know - like national country musicians Cole Taylor and Cody Webb, along with regional artists like Americana singer, Cranford Hollow and true local sounds with a “Best of Aiken Open Mic” event with vetted Aikenite artists. The line-up is still being announced, so check back to find out who else is on the docket!
6. Getting from place to place is simple as you experience it all with the free trolley.
The iconic red and green trolley will be transporting festival-goers between events and downtown on Saturday from 1 p.m. to midnight. And to add to the flair there will be live, local musicians hummin', strummin', and keeping you entertained along the way... maybe even some crowd sing-alongs.
We look forward to seeing you October 12-15 and sharing Aiken’s music scene with you. For more info on the weekend of events check out www.AikenCityLimits.com.
