Spring Series

The Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce will kick off its “Women in Business” Spring Luncheon Series on April 14.  The series, entitled “Business Success – Inside and Out,” is designed to motivate participants to strive for business success through evaluation and improvement – beginning with self.

“The theme for the Spring Series is important for every business,” said Dr. Deidre Martin, University of South Carolina Aiken, and the Chamber’s vice chair of Business and Community Development.  “Employees are certainly the most valuable resource for any organization and taking steps to ensure that employees are healthy and productive is key to the bottom line.”

Women in Business Committee Chair Liz Neal, The Hills of Cumberland Village, agreed. “We feel that this series adds value to business by showing women that being healthy and looking good leads to success in the working world.  When a person is in top condition – the best she can be – then confidence grows, decision making is clear, and the business, and the person, have the potential for success,” Neal said.

Second Session: The second part in the spring series, “Get Physical – Get Active” will be held May 26 and will focus on steps to a healthy lifestyle through physical activity.  Dr. Brian B. Parr, assistant professor in the Department of Exercise and Sports Science at USCA, will share how to start an exercise program to get and stay physically healthy for lifelong health and wellness.

Dr. Parr teaches courses in exercise physiology, nutrition, physical activity, obesity, and health at USCA.  He also conducts research focusing on weight loss and physical activity. He is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine and is certified as a Clinical Exercise Specialist.
