The local SCORE office will hold a tax workshop designed for owners of small early-stage businesses on July 25. 

“Taxes - FAQs for the Small Business Owner” will be presented by local CPA David Snyder.  SCORE counselor Pegi Flahault, owner, Mobile Office Management, LLC (M.O.M.), will serve as the moderator. 

The goal of the workshop is to remove the complexity of taxes and explain them in layperson’s terms.  Among the questions to be answered are: 

  • When do I pay sales tax?  How do I pay it? 
  • If I provide a service, do I pay sales tax?
  • When do I pay payroll tax?  How do I pay it? 
  • How do I pay myself?  Is it considered to be payroll?  What do I do about deductions?  If it isn't payroll, how do I pay social security and medicare and anything else that would have been a deduction?  

“We want small business owners to feel comfortable when it comes to dealing with taxes.  I think this workshop will help them get answers and, at the same time, ease some of the stress that often accompanies the tax aspect of owning a business,” said Flahault. 

The local SCORE office offers workshops designed for early stage businesses and seminars geared for established businesses. 

All seminars and workshops are FREE and are held at the Aiken Chamber of Commerce, 121 Richland Avenue, E, in downtown Aiken.  Doors open at 9:15 a.m., and classes are from 9:30 to 11.
