What do April 29, July 29, September 30, and December 30 have in common this year?

They all fall on the fifth Friday of the month, an occurrence that happens four times a year, and the Aiken Young Professionals (AYP) are ready to start celebrating the phenomenon.

The inaugural 5th Friday . . . Your Friends, Your Family, Your City! will launch July 29, and everyone is invited to attend the free event.

“We are bringing another cool factor to downtown Aiken, and it’s going to be a blast!” said Selwyn DeLoach, AYP member and a deputy with the Aiken County Sheriff’s Department.

Music, art, entertainment, and food will be on tap in The Alley with several fun, kid friendly, features:

  • Games
  • Inflatables
  • Clowns
  • Balloon Artist
  • Dunking Booth
  • Sidewalk Art

Local band Anybody’s Guess will showcase there diverse talent with a wide selection of oldies, beach music, and rock; and restaurants will offer food and drink specials.

“Our goal is to promote the economy while fostering family oriented values and providing social and networking opportunities for our young professionals.  The time period from 6 – 8 PM will be more family and kid focused, and from 8 – 10 PM, it will be focused on young professionals,” said DeLoach, who is chairing AYP’s 5th Friday Committee.

The July 29 event is just the beginning of what the Aiken Young Professionals hope will become a quarterly community service event.

Fifth Friday is being hosted by the Aiken Young Professionals with the endorsement and assistance from the City of Aiken. Security will be provided by Aiken Public Safety.

The community service event supports the AYP strategic plan that features five bold steps with a vision that focuses on three areas – networking, community service, and educational events designed to nurture future leaders of the Greater Aiken area.
