If someone had told me back in 1991 about all the challenges and headaches there would be to having my own business, I probably would have thought twice – or three times – about opening My Sister’s Closet. What causes me to say that now? Well let’s just say the first 28 years combined were nothing compared to the first five months of 2020. Let’s see? People tragically dying all around the world. A mandatory shut down. Empty streets and parking lots. Laying off some staff I liked a lot. Having some people not want to come back to work because they’d rather stay home and collect unemployment. Only being allowed to let 10 customers in the store at a time. And now, the ongoing fear in everyone’s minds that’s keeping so many from shopping again. As we always have we will continue to innovate and make the changes needed not only to stay in business, but to thrive. Eleanor Roosevelt said, “Every day do something that scares you.” Well, we live by these words now more than ever. All of us here graduated from the school of hard knocks, and can testify to the fact that if you aren’t willing to fail you never will succeed.
